Hawaiian Toast with Custard Sauce
Ingredients
Toast
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- 6 slices bread
- 3/4 cup finely crushed corn flakes
- 6 pineapple slices, drained
- 2 oranges. peeled and sliced
Custard Sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cup milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon grated orange rind
Instructions
Toast
- Combine first 5 ingredients in bowl, beating slightly.
- Spread butter over 10 x 15 x 1-inch baking dish. Dip bread into egg mixture; drain. Coat with crumbs. Place in buttered dish.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes; turn.
- Bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until crisp.
- Top each slice of toast with pineapple and orange slices and 1/2 cup Custard Sauce.
Custard Sauce
- Combine first 3 ingredients in bowl, blending well. Stir in milk, mixing well. Cook over low heat until smooth and thick, stirring constantly.
- Beat eggs and orange rind in small bowl. Stir a small amount of hot mixture into eggs. Add eggs to hot mixture, stirring constantly. Cook over low heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
