Brown Sugar Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 (16 ounce) box light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup nuts, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan. Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Cream shortening, butter and brown and white sugars.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Add flour and baking powder which have been sifted together alternately with milk.
  5. Add vanilla extract, then nuts dredged in flour.
  6. Pour into prepared tube pan.
  7. Bake for 1 1/2 hours.
