Chocolate Cherry Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix*
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • Creamy Cherry Frosting

Instructions

  1. Lightly oil or spray fluted tube pan; sprinkle sides of pan with granulated sugar; shake out excess.
  2. Mix together all ingredients; beat according to package directions.
  3. Pour batter into pan.
  4. Bake according to package directions.
  5. Let stand in pan for 10 minutes to cool.
  6. Turn out of pan.
  7. Frost with Creamy Cherry Frosting or any other frosting of your choice.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
