  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box devil's food cake mix*
  • 1 can cherry pie fruit filling
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Frosting

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour** a 15 x 10 inch jellyroll pan or use our Pan Release.
  2. Mix all ingredients (do not use ingredients called for on cake mix box...only the four ingredients listed).
  3. Spread batter into prepared pan and bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into the middle comes out with a light crumb.
  4. Frost the cake after it has cooled to just warm.

Frosting

  1. Boil sugar, butter and milk for 1 minute.
  2. Add chocolate chips. Stir until chips are melted.
  3. Spread on slightly warm bars.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.

** For best results, use our Pan Release!
