Bayou Brownies
Yield: 24
Ingredients
Bottom Layer
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix*
- 1 cup pecans
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
Top Layer
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 1 (16 ounce) box confectioners' sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten until fluffy
Instructions
- Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Mix the bottom layer ingredients together by hand. Press into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
- Mix the top layer ingredients with an electric mixer and pour over the first layer.
- Bake for 40 to 50 minutes.
- Cool and cut into squares.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
