"Old Yeller" Buttermilk Cake

1/2 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs mix well. Combine dry ingredients
and add alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla extract. Pour into a 9
x 13-inch greased pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes.
Frosting:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine sugar, milk and butter in small pan. Bring to a full boil and
boil 1 minute remove and add vanilla extract. Pour over hot cake and let sit
until absorbed.
