Strawberry Soda Pop Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 large box strawberry gelatin
  • 1 (12 ounce) can strawberry Shasta
  • 1 small box vanilla INSTANT pudding
  • 1 large container Cool Whip
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box white cake mix*

Instructions

  1. Make cake according to package instructions, and bake in a 13 x 9 inch pan.
  2. After cake has cooled, poke holes in cake with a straw.
  3. Prepare gelatin mix by dissolving gelatin in 1 1/2 cups hot water. Add cold Shasta (don't let set). Pour over cake, then refrigerate long enough to set.
  4. Mix pudding with 1 1/2 cups cold milk, and beat until thick. Stir in Cool Whip and spread over cake.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
