Gooey St. Louis Brownies
Ingredients
Brownie
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
- 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Gooey Topping
- 2 large eggs
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
Brownie
- In a 3 quart saucepan, heat butter and chocolate over medium-low heat until melted, stirring frequently.
- Remove saucepan from heat; stir in sugar and vanilla extract.
- Add eggs; stir until well mixed.
- Stir in flour and salt just until blended.
- Spread batter in pan.
Gooey Topping
- In a medium bowl, with mixer at low speed, beat eggs, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gently spread topping over brownie.
- Bake brownie for 55 to 60 minutes or until wooden pick inserted 2 inches from edge comes out almost clean and top turns golden brown.
- Cool in pan on wire rack, then cut into bars.
