Candy Cane Cookies
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
1 cup soft shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Mix together the confectioners' sugar, shortening, egg, almond extract and
vanilla extract. Sift together flour and salt and stir in to the first mixture.
Divide dough in half. Color half with red food coloring. Roll 1 teaspoon of
each color 9 inches long and twist together, forming the shape of a candy cane.
Place on an ungreased pan. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint and sugar after
baking, while still warm.
