Down Home Apple Cobbler
Yield: 12 servings
Ingredients
Topping
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Filling
- 8 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 cup red hots
- 1/4 cup butter
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Topping
- Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat butter with brown sugar in large bowl until creamy.
- Blend in egg and vanilla extract.
- Stir in rolled oats, flour and cinnamon thoroughly.
Filling
- In a large bowl, combine apple slices, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, allspice and red hots. Mix well. Pour into baking dish.
- Slice 1/4 cup butter stick into thin slices and place over apple mixture then top with topping mixture.Spread evenly over apples.
- Bake for one hour or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
