Vanilla Cream Pie

Ingredients

Pie

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses or light com syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shell

Crumbs

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup lard, butter, vegetable shortening

Instructions

Pie

  1. Combine all pie ingredients, except the vanilla extract, in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and continue boiling until thickened.
  2. Allow to cool, then stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Pour into unbaked shell.

Crumbs

  1. Melt shortening.
  2. Stir in dry ingredients.
  3. Crumble over top of pie.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees F for 50 to 60 minutes.
