Homemade grenadine adds distinctive flavor and color to drinks, fruit mixtures,
sauces, and desserts and makes a great gift during the holiday season. For a
festive holiday aperitif, add 1 or 2 tablespoons to sparkling wine; drop a few
fresh or frozen seeds to each glass.
Prep: 5 min, Cook: 5 min, plus cooling time.
1 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup sugar
In a small saucepan, combine pomegranate juice and sugar. Bring to a boil over
high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved; boil for 1 minute. Remove
from heat and cool. Cover and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Freeze, in airtight
containers, up to 3 months. Makes 1 1/4 cups.
