Devils on Horseback

There are so many variations of Devils on Horseback that we are giving you a couple variations in this recipe. Choose the ingredients that appeal to you.

Devils on Horseback

Yield: 24

Ingredients

  • 24 prunes or dates*
  • 24 smoked almonds or 8 ounces goat cheese**
  • 24 slices bacon

* Slit open prunes or dates. If using dates that have not been pitted, carefully remove the pits.

** If another variety of melty cheese appeals to you, then by all means use that.

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Have ready a tall-rimmed baking sheet or use a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  2. Insert a smoked almond into each prune or date. Or fill them with goat cheese. You don't need a lot of cheese, just enough to be able to close it securely.
  3. Wrap each of the dates in half a strip of bacon, then pierce them through with a wooden pick.
  4. Arrange the dates on a baking sheet or in baking pan.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip and put them back in for another 12 to 15 minutes, until the bacon is crisp.
  6. Let cool for a a few minutes, take them off the baking sheet, and serve.

Notes

As you can see, it is very easy to increase or decrease the quantity in this recipe.
