  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Rum flavoring, to taste


  1. Blend sugar and egg yolks. Add salt. Stir in milk and cook over medium heat until the mixture coats a spoon. Cool.
  2. Beat the egg whites until foamy.
  3. Add sugar to whites and beat until soft peaks form.
  4. Add egg white mixture to the custard and allow to cool.
  5. Add vanilla extract and rum flavoring to taste.
  6. Chill.
