Treacle Scones


  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and ginger in a bowl.
  2. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or rub in with your finger tips.
  3. Mix in molasses and buttermilk.
  4. Turn dough out on a lightly floured board, and pat into a circle about 1/2-inch thick. Cut in wedges.
  5. Sprinkle tops with cinnamon and sugar, if desired.
  6. Bake on cookie sheet at 400 degrees F for about 15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with butter.
