Sour Cream Coffee Cake

This is one of the most delicious coffee cakes I have ever made. I don't use the glaze on mine as it isn't needed.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) soft butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Topping

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

Cake

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a tube pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar.
  3. Add eggs, then the flour.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract, sour cream, baking powder and baking soda.
  5. Pour 1/2 the batter into the prepared tube pan.
  6. Spread 1/2 the topping over this.
  7. Pour remaining batter over topping and cover with remaining topping.
  8. Bake for 50 minutes
  9. Meanwhile, make the topping.
  10. Let cake stand for 10 to 15 minutes.
  11. If desired, drizzle with confectioners' sugar glaze.

Topping

  1. Mix all ingredients together.
