Overnight French Toast
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup Karo syrup*
- 1 large loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
- 10 eggs
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Melt butter, brown sugar, and Karo syrup in saucepan over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Bring to a boil. Pour caramelized mixture into a 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Arrange French bread slices on top of caramelized mixture.
- In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour over French bread slices. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Cover baker with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Remove plastic wrap. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until puffed and golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Serve with fresh fruit.
Notes
* Maple syrup may be substituted for Karo syrup. The following optional ingredients may be added to the caramelized mixture: walnuts, raisins, coconut, dried cranberries and/or mixed dried berries.
