Kentucky Butter Cake
Ingredients
Cake
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 cup butter (room temperature)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
Butter Sauce
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan.
Cake
- In a large bowl, combine all cake ingredients; beat on low speed until moistened. Beat for about 3 minutes at medium speed. Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake for 50 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Butter Sauce
- In a small saucepan over low heat, combine sugar, butter and water; cook just until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Do not bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in almond and vanilla extracts.
- Pierce the cake all over with a fork then pour the hot sauce over the warm cake. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until sauce is absorbed.
