Kentucky Butter Cake

Kentucky Butter Cake recipe

Ingredients

Cake

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs

Butter Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan.

Cake

  1. In a large bowl, combine all cake ingredients; beat on low speed until moistened. Beat for about 3 minutes at medium speed. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  2. Bake for 50 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Butter Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine sugar, butter and water; cook just until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Do not bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in almond and vanilla extracts.
  2. Pierce the cake all over with a fork then pour the hot sauce over the warm cake. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until sauce is absorbed.
