Orange-Date Loaf Cake


  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • Rind of 1 orange (colored portion only)
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup pitted dates
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Juice of 1 orange


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and lightly flour a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  2. Put sour cream, eggs, butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar in blender container in order listed; cover and run on high speed until smooth. Add orange rind, nuts, and dates; cover and run on high speed until all are chopped.
  3. Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt together into a mixing bowl; add blended mixture and mix well. Turn batter into prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake tests done.
  5. Remove from oven and cool in pan on rack for 5 minutes.
  6. Mix orange juice and 1/2 cup sugar; pour over hot cake while still in pan.
  7. When cake is cool, turn out onto serving plate.
