Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake with
Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting



  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate fudge cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) softened butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese-softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons milk (add gradually so frosting remains thick)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray bottom and sides of 9 x 13-inch pan with cooking spray.
  2. Cake: Beat cake mix, eggs, milk and almond extract for 1 minute.
  3. Beat in pie filling and chocolate chips for 1 more minute.
  4. Bake for 35 minutes or until tests done with a wooden pick.
  5. Remove from oven and cool completely on wire rack.
  6. Frost with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting.
  7. Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat all ingredients together until light and fluffy.
  8. Frost cake.
  9. Garnish with chocolate covered cherries if desired.
