Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix*
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 small box instant vanilla pudding
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Topping

  • 6 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

Cake

  1. Mix all ingredients except cinnamon in a large mixing bowl and beat for 10 minutes.
  2. Pour 1/2 of the mixture into a large tube pan and sprinkle with the 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  3. Pour in remainder of batter.
  4. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F.

Topping

  1. Melt ingredients in a double boiler, then drizzle over the cake. If topping is too thick, add about 2 tablespoons water.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
