Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix*
  • 1 small box regular vanilla pudding (not instant)
  • 1 (12 ounce) package chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (your choice)

Instructions

  1. Cook pudding per directions.
  2. Put dry cake mix into bowl and pour cooked pudding over; whisk until well mixed. Pour into greased and floured** 13 x 9-inch baking pan, and sprinkle chocolate chips over top.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 30 minutes.
  4. Halfway through baking time, sprinkle chopped nuts on top. Do not over-bake. Cake is done when a wooden pick comes out clean.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
