Jell-O Punch Bowl Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow or white cake mix*
  • 1 large box strawberry or cherry Jell-O
  • 2 (16 ounce) containers Cool Whip
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries (or 2 cans cherry pie filling)

Instructions

  1. Bake cake following instructions on box.
  2. Let cool.
  3. Mix Jell-O using the fast recipe (with ice cubes).
  4. Slice strawberries.
  5. Crumble some cake into bottom of bowl.
  6. Pour some Jell-O over the cake.
  7. Spread sliced strawberries on Jell-O.
  8. Spread Cool Whip over strawberries.
  9. Continue to layer.
  10. Top with Cool Whip and strawberries to decorate.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
