Oreo Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix*
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 24 Oreos, coarsely chopped
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 4 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  1. Combine Oreos, chocolate chips, flour and melted butter. Mix well. Set aside.
  2. Prepare cake mix using the water and eggs listed in recipe.
  3. Grease an angel food pan or Bundt cake pan. Put half of the cake batter into pan.
  4. Sprinkle 2 cups of Oreo mixture over cake batter.
  5. Top with remaining cake batter, then remaining Oreo mixture.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes.
  8. Invert cake onto cooling rack, then invert again so cake is right side up. Cool completely.
  9. After cake has cooled, in small bowl combine confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over cake.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
