Chocolate Fantasy Bars
Ingredients
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix*
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 (14 ounce) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 (6 ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Dash of salt
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, oil and egg; beat on medium speed until crumbly.
- Stir in nuts. Reserving 1 1/2 cups crumb mixture, press remainder on bottom of greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
- In small saucepan, combine remaining ingredients. Over medium heat, cook and stir until chips melt.
- Pour evenly over prepared crust. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture evenly over top.
- Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until set. Cool.
- Cut into bars.
- Store loosely covered at room temperature.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
