Chocolate Kahlua Cream Bars

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box devil's food cake mix*
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soft butter

Filling

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup light cream
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua

Topping

  • 6 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

Crust

  1. Combine 1/2 cake mix with above. Blend well. Add remaining cake mix.
  2. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes in greased jellyroll pan.

Filling

  1. Beat butter and sugar together.
  2. Add cream and Kahlua.
  3. Mix in 1 cup of chopped pecans. Spread on base and chill.

Topping

  1. Melt all ingredients over hot water. Drizzle over filling.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
