Chocolate Meltaways

Ingredients

• 1 (18.25 ounce) box devil's food cake mix*
• 1/4 cup water
• 2 eggs
• 1/4 cup butter
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup nuts
• 1 package white frosting mix
• 3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate

Instructions

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Combine half the cake mix, water, eggs, butter and brown sugar. Mix.
3. Blend in remaining cake mix.
4. Stir in nuts. Spread in greased and floured jellyroll pan.
5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool.
6. Prepare frosting mix as directed on package. Spread on cake.
7. Melt chocolate and pour over cake.
8. Cut into 2 inch squares before chocolate is completely firm.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
