French Vanilla Macaroon Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box Pillsbury Moist French Vanilla cake mix*
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 13 x 9 inch pan.
  2. Combine cake mix and butter.
  3. Cut butter in with a fork until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Mix all remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the pan.
  5. Bake for 16 to 22 minutes.
  6. Cool for 15 minutes.
  7. In a small saucepan over low heat melt chocolate chips until stirring consistency. Drizzle over cake.
  8. Cool for 1 1/2 hours.
  9. Cut into bars.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
