Knock You Nakeds
Yield: 16 to 20 bars
Ingredients
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box German chocolate cake mix*
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/3 cup + 1/2 cup evaporated milk, divided
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 60 vanilla caramels, unwrapped (one 14 ounce package)
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch glass baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, pecans, the 1/3 cup evaporated milk and melted butter. Press half of the batter into the bottom of prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 8 minutes. Do not turn off oven.
- In the top of a double boiler over simmering water, melt caramels with remaining 1/2 cup evaporated milk. When caramel mixture is well mixed, pour over baked layer.
- Cover with chocolate chips.
- Pour remaining batter on top of morsels.
- Return oven and bake for 18 minutes.
- Let cool before cutting into squares.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
