Buttermilk Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and dust with flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  2. Cream butter and shortening together.
  3. Add vanilla extract gradually.
  4. Cream in sugar.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan, and bake for 1 1/4 hours.
