Black Walnut Sheet Cake

A warm chocolaty delight is just the thing to stave off the snow and cold. Add a cup of coffee or marshmallow-laden hot chocolate and this recipe will make the perfect cozy evening with the family, watching the snow fall.

Black Walnut Sheet Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs

Icing

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
  • 6 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 cup Hammons Black Walnuts
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cake

  1. Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
  2. Melt butter and mix with cocoa and water. Bring to a rapid boil and pour over dry ingredients.
  3. Add buttermilk and eggs.
  4. Bake in 15 x 10 inch jellyroll pan for 15 to 20 minutes.

Icing

  1. Melt butter, cocoa and buttermilk. Bring to a boil and add powdered sugar and black walnuts. Spread while cake is hot.
