Fudgy Chocolate Cake

Fudgy Chocolate Cake is made from scratch. It's almost as easy to make as a recipe using a boxed cake mix.

Fudgy Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fudge Frosting

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 (16 ounce) box confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

Cake

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease well a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  • Mix flour and sugar in a large bowl.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa over medium heat. Bring mixture to a boil and pour over the flour/sugar mixture. Mix well.
  • Add eggs, buttermilk, baking soda and vanilla extract.
  • Pour into prepared pan, and bake for 30 minutes.

Fudge Frosting

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine butter, milk, and cocoa and bring mixture to a boil. confectioners' sugar, stirring well with a whisk or wooden spoon until the sugar melts and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Stir in vanilla extract and pecans (if using), then pour over hot cake.
