German Peach Cake (Peach Kuchen)



  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 4 cups sliced peaches
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar


  1. Mix 1 1/4 cups of the flour and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt.
  2. Cut in butter until the size of peas.
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons sour cream.
  4. Press mixture into an 8-inch square pan.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes.
  6. Spread peaches on baked crust.
  7. Mix remaining ingredients (1/4 cup flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon sour cream, 3 egg yolks and 1 cup sugar) and pour over peaches.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees F for an additional 35 to 40 minutes or until firm.
  9. Serve with whipped cream.
