"Old Yeller" Buttermilk Cake
Ingredients
Cake
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Frosting
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Cake: Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs mix well.
- Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour into a 9 x 13-inch greased pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes.
- Frosting: Combine sugar, milk and butter in small pan. Bring to a full boil
and boil 1 minute remove and add vanilla extract.
- Pour over hot cake and let sit until absorbed.
