Peanut Butter Meltaway Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups cold water

First Topping Layer

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon vegetable oil

Second Topping Layer

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar
  • 6 tablespoons sour milk*
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

* Sour the milk by adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon vinegar to the milk.

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cake: Combine the cake ingredients.
  3. Bake in a 9 x 13-inch pan for 40 minutes, or until a wooden pick comes out clean.
  4. Let cake cool completely.
  5. First Topping Layer: Mix together peanut butter and vegetable oil. Spread this mixture on top of cooled cake.
  6. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  7. Second Topping Layer: Heat all ingredients in a saucepan. Mix until smooth and it comes to a boil.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes.
  9. Pour and spread over the peanut butter layer.
  10. Let cool and keep refrigerated.
