Dutch Oven Campfire Cobbler

Any type of pie filling can be used. Cherry filling with chocolate cake makes a good combination.

Ingredients

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box white or yellow cake mix*
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cans cinnamon apple pie filling

Instructions

  1. Line Dutch oven with foil.
  2. Empty pie filling into Dutch oven.
  3. Empty cake mix on top of pie filling and spread evenly.
  4. Add butter and water. DO NOT MIX.
  5. Place Dutch oven on 10 coals.
  6. Place 8 coals on lid of Dutch oven.
  7. Bake for about 1 hour.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe.
