Hasenour's Barbecue Sauce
Yield: 3 quarts
Ingredients
- 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (32 ounce) bottle ketchup
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Tabasco
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
- 4 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons horseradish (do not use creamy)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 quart water
Instructions
- In a large kettle combine all ingredients. Bring to a simmer and cook 15 minutes.
- Store in refrigerator.
- Use with pork, ribs and chicken.
Notes
For a smoky flavor, add 1 tablespoon liquid smoke. For a hotter sauce, add 1 tablespoon dry mustard, 1 tablespoon chili powder and Tabasco to taste. For still another flavor, add 1 lemon, sliced thin. Remove after simmering.
