Vanilla Play Dough


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Food coloring
  • Vanilla extract


  1. Measure out the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl and then stir them together thoroughly. Put the dry ingredients into a saucepan with the oil, water, food coloring and vanilla extract. Stir continuously over low heat until a dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured pastry board and knead while the mixture cools. Continue to knead for 5 to 10 minutes. If the mixture is too day, occasionally dampen your hands while kneading. If it is too sticky, dust the mixture with a little extra flour.
  3. Store play dough in a plastic container with an airtight lid.
