Christmas Dump Cake
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) can whole cranberry sauce
- 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix*
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds, walnuts or granola
Instructions
- Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Dump cranberries into an ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan.
- Dump apple pie filling into pan.
- Spread mixture evenly and "sift" dry cake mix on top.
- Cut up butter and dot top of cake.
- Sprinkle nuts or granola on top of cake.
- Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Cool 10 minutes, then cut into squares.
- Serve with Cool Whip or ice cream.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
