Butter Tart Squares

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 cup flour and sugar.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
  3. Press into an ungreased 9-inch square pan.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes.
  5. Beat together eggs, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, baking powder, vanilla extract and salt.
  6. Stir in raisins and nuts. Pour this mixture over the base.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes or until the filling is almost firm.
  8. Let cool and cut into small squares.
