Fruitcake Fantasy Brownies


  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
  • 1/2 teaspoon rum extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups diced mixed candied fruit
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan.
  2. In large saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add sweetened condensed milk and rum extract; blend well.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Add flour, baking powder and salt; mix well.
  7. Stir in candied fruit and pecans.
  8. Spread in prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 28 to 36 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  10. Cool for 1 hour or until completely cooled.
  11. Cut into bars.

Yield: 36 brownies
