Texas Brownies

Ingredients

Brownie

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Brownie: Mix together sugar and flour.
  2. Put margarine, water and cocoa in a saucepan and let melt.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients and mix.
  4. Bake in a jellyroll pan at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes.
  5. Ice while warm.
  6. Icing: Put margarine, milk and cocoa in a pan and melt together. Remove from heat.
  7. Add confectioners' sugar and nuts.
  8. Spread on brownies while warm.
