Texas Brownies

Ingredients

Brownie

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Brownie

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Mix together sugar and flour.
  3. Put butter, water and cocoa in a saucepan and let melt.
  4. Add all remaining ingredients and mix.
  5. Bake in a 15 x 10 inch jellyroll pan for 25 to 30 minutes.
  6. Ice while warm.

Icing

  1. Put butter, milk and cocoa in a pan and melt together. Remove from heat.
  2. Add confectioners' sugar and nuts.
  3. Spread on brownies while warm.
