Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies




  1. In a saucepan, cook raisins in water over medium heat until plump, about 15 minutes.
  2. Drain, reserving liquid. Add enough water to liquid to measure 1/2 cup.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir in raisin liquid.
  5. Blend in dry ingredients.
  6. Stir in raisins and oats.
  7. Add nuts if desired.
  8. Drop by teaspoonsful about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown.
