Candy Cane Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
- 1 cup soft shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Mix together the confectioners' sugar, shortening, egg, almond extract and vanilla extract.
- Sift together flour and salt and stir in to the first mixture. Divide dough in half. Color half with red food coloring. Roll 1 teaspoon of each color 9 inches long and twist together, forming the shape of a candy cane. Place on an ungreased pan.
- Sprinkle with crushed peppermint and sugar after baking, while still warm.
