Sugar Honeys

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup flour
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 egg white
  • Candied cherries (to garnish)
  • Butter frosting

Instructions

  1. Mix first 6 ingredients and roll into small balls, then dip in slightly beaten egg white and roll in nuts. Make a dent in center of each ball.
  2. Bake for 5 minutes at 300 degrees F on greased cookie sheet, then make a deeper dent and bake 15 minutes longer.
  3. When cooled, fill dents with butter frosting and top with a piece of candied cherry.

This cookie keeps quite well and can be frozen (unfilled), then filled just before serving.
