Thumbprint Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Cream together the brown sugar, butter, egg yolk and vanilla extract. Stir in flour and salt.
  3. Roll into small balls.
  4. Dip into slightly beaten egg white.
  5. Roll in 3/4 cup chopped nuts.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Remove from oven and indent each cookie with your thumb. Top with 1/2 maraschino cherry.
  8. Bake 8 to 10 minutes longer.
