Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, marionberries - the choice is yours!
- 1 quart berries of your choice
- 1 quart water
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 6 tablespoons shortening
- 2/3 cup milk
- Put the berries and water into a large pot and cook over medium heat until the
berries are done. Stir in the butter and sugar.
- Mix self-rising flour and shortening with a fork and add milk. Mix to form a
dough. Drop by tablespoonsful into the boiling berry mixture. Be sure the berry
mixture is boiling and do not stir the dumplings or they will stick together.
- After all of the dumplings have been dropped into the berries, cover the pot
and reduce the heat to low and cook for another 8 to 10 minutes.
