Bitter Chocolate Sauce


  • 1/4 pound semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sweet butter


  1. Melt chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of hot water.
  2. Put sugar, milk, cream and butter in a saucepan and stir to dissolve. Bring to a boil and stir it into the melted chocolate. Pour this mixture back into the pan and bring to a boil, stirring.
  3. Pour it back into the bowl and let cool, stirring occasionally.

Serves 4 to 6.
