Death by Chocolate Trifle

Ingredients

  • 4 boxes instant chocolate pudding or mousse
  • 1 large container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix* ( or your own cake recipe )
  • 1 cup Kahlua (optional)
  • 6 Skor or Heath candy bars ( chocolate toffee bars), chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare box mix as directed or your prepare your own chocolate cake recipe and bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
  2. When done, remove from the oven, poke holes in the cake and pour the Kahlua over the cake. Let cool.
  3. Meanwhile prepare the pudding or mousse.
  4. Tear or crumble the cake into pieces.
  5. In a glass or trifle bowl, layer in this order: cake, pudding, whipped topping and candy bars.
  6. Repeat layers ending with chopped candy bars on top.
  7. Chill well.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe.
