Shadone (Italian Easter Bread)

Yield: about 3 (9 inch) breads

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • Water
  • 15 eggs
  • 3 cups ham, chopped
  • 3/4 pound Cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 pound Swiss cheese
  • 3/4 pound Muenster cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare flour, salt, baking powder, the 3 eggs, Crisco, sugar and water as pie crust. Line pie pans.
  2. Combine the 15 eggs, ham and cheeses.
  3. Beat eggs well. Add chopped ham and chopped cheeses. Season with garlic salt and pepper. Pour mixture into lined pie pans.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
